Office Water Cooler
The office water cooler is not just for gossip. It is to provide good, clean water for you and your co-workers to drink.
The office water cooler is usually a standalone water cooler. Sometimes it is a Point of Use cooler that is hooked directly into the water system by a line from the cooler itself. Sometimes the office water cooler is a machine for cooling and/or heating that utilizes a five gallon jug of water that is delivered as needed. Whether it is in the break room or in a hallway, the office water cooler is becoming one of the most important items in the office.
Many people in the office use the office water cooler to get water to drink or water with which to make coffee or tea. Because it is pure drinking water, the office water cooler is often the source for refilling the water bottle you purchased on the way to work that morning.
The water from the office water cooler is usually supplied by the company for which you work. It is the office management’s choice which company the water comes from. There are many companies that can supply the large bottles that contain the water. To install the bottle of water turn the bottle upside down and set it into the cooler. There is a valve that dispenses the water. When the bottle is removed the valve seals the dispenser off. The office water cooler is often the best place to hear and discuss office topics and personnel gossip. These conversations are usually less than professional.
The office water cooler should be energy star rated and should use the least amount of electricity possible. The management will have to make the decision as to which type of office water cooler is best. Consideration must be made for who will supply the bottled water. A schedule of delivery must be set up and maintained. The company should decide whether it wants to lease or own the office water cooler. If the company decides to purchase the office water cooler from an office supply store it may decide to purchase one that is inside a cabinet. There are office water cooler companies here in the United States and also in the United Kingdom. If your company does not want to have to call for water deliveries in order to keep the office water cooler stocked, then the management might want to consider getting a point of service cooler hooked up to the water main that feeds the office.
After purchasing or leasing an office water cooler you have to take care of it and make certain that it is cleaned and disinfected as necessary. Just because the water is bottled does not make it safe if the water cooler is not clean. You and your co-workers should wash your hands prior to using the office water cooler. You should be careful to keep things and hands from touching and contaminating the spigot. The water cooler should be cleaned with every bottle of water or at least every six weeks. Prior to inserting the bottle of water, the neck of that bottle should be cleaned and sanitized.
